Chickweed (Stellaria media)
Parts used: Ariel parts of the plant
Benefits: This weedy plant can be found growing around the world, especially anywhere moist, cultivated soil can be found.  Seriously, walk outside right now and you’ll probably find some in your backyard along with other weed wonders like dandelion, plantain and clover.  Chickweed is highly esteemed for it emollient and demulcent properties and is used to treat skin irritations (especially sunburn and insect bites), eye inflammation, and kidney disorders.  It is a mild diuretic and is indicated in water retention.  It is an excellent poultice herb and is often found in salve formulas because of its soothing effects on the skin.  Additionally, it is a chock-full of nutrients like calcium, potassium and iron!
Suggested uses: The fresh tender greens are delicious in salads.  They can be juiced or blended with pineapple juice and are often made into salves.  A light infusion of chickweed is quite soothing.  The plant doesn’t dry or store well, so to preserve it for future use, it is best to tincture it fresh.

GIVE AWAY (please read all of the details so there is no disappointment and that you understand everything)!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~PLEASE READ~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hey gang. For those of you who don’t know, my name is Amber. This is my first give away and I am making it unique. I am not doing one giveaway… or two giveaways… I am doing FOUR separate giveaways! ^_^
A quick run down of “rules” if you will. I ask that:
  • You follow me (especially if you like gemstones, crystals and mineral (specimens) for my blog consist of my collection and I adore showing it off).
  • You try not to reblog more than say… five or six times a day, for the soul purpose of not coming off as spam and annoying fellow followers who just may not be into this sort of thing.
  • If you have questions please contact me, though the “ask” button on my blog. I am very easy going and will reply as soon as I can (anons welcomed).
I will use a numbers generator to pick the random four winners. If you’re contacted, YOU GET TO CHOOSE which of the four giveaways you want. I will say you’ve won, give you my e-mail address so I can get your information (if you want to give it on tumblr too, that’s fine. I just figured e-mail would be more private). Now, here is information on the giveaways:
Giveaway one:  4 snow flake obsidian, 3 pieces of peacock ore and 11 small pieces of fluorite. The fluorite is very colorful and has been though (what seems to me) several of the tumbling stages, but does not have a shine to them. The Peacock ore it rough and one of the snow flake obsidians is also rough,too.
Giveaway two: 9 pieces of Barcciated Jasper, one of which is rough. 12 small, colorful pieces of fluorite.
Giveaway three: 1 piece of agate (which is a little rough looking, but has a smooth finish. A nice sized piece). 10 small pieces of fluorite 7 nearly flawless, polished pieces of hematite.
Giveaway four: In this giveaway there is a lot more because the gemstones here are small (I figured they could be used for wire warping) and again, appear as though they have been though the tumbler without getting the final step (the polishing step). A few of these gemstones are a little dinged and rough looking but if done right, I think would make a unique piece of jewelry ^_^ Here is what’s in this giveaway: 54 small pieces of  fluorite, 3 small pieces of agate and 15 other small, random assortment of gemstones (mostly I haven’t a clue what they are lol).
(The fifth photo is of all the gemstones in their separate baggies.)
I will let this giveaway go for a few weeks if not an entire month, not only to be fair, but to get as many followers as I can. I will also be making this a habbit (giveaways that is).
I will ship anywhere in the world—at no cost to you, if I can (I will do research about sending items such as these to your country, just to make sure there wont be any hardship in you retrieving them though customs).
Again, any questions, please don’t be afraid to ask.
Sure it’s a small giveaway and not the greatest, but I think a great place to start. Thank you in advance to the new followers!
Have fun! ^_^!!
Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale)
Volumes could be written on the many uses of dandelion - indeed they have been! This common weed is often hated and poisoned by those preferring a “weed free” lawn, while those of us in love with dandelion and its many uses happily support it taking over our lawns.  Every part of the dandelion can be used as food or medicine, making back door herbalism simple and easy, as it should be.
When the first spring leaves pop up out of the ground they can be harvested heavily and eaten fresh with salads, made into a delicious pesto, or dried for tea.  The leaves are highly nutritious, containing large amounts of vitamin A, calcium, potassium, and many more vitamins and minerals. The French call this plant pissenlit, which alludes to its strong diuretic properties. A tea of dandelion leaves is a great way to flush excess  water from the system.  When eaten with meals, the bitter taste of the leaves helps to promote digestion by stimulating bile to relieve indigestion and other digestive disturbances.
The root is a great ally for the liver. It can be tinctured or eaten fresh in a variety of recipes. Dandelion root can help clear up acne and other skin disruptions with the root cause being a stagnant liver. Most herbalists agree that long-term use of dandelion is needed for best results.
